Tigers Den Resort is a good base for exploring Bandhavgarh National Park in search of tigers, and learning about life in the local village. Between activities you can rest and enjoy the creature comforts and facilities of the resort which include beautifully maintained gardens, an outdoor swimming pool and a spa offering soothing and re-energising massages.

There are superior rooms and cottages. Both offer spacious, air-conditioned accommodation decorated with artworks and colourful throws and cushions, have an en-suite bathroom with 24-hour running water and a range of toiletries. There is also a balcony or veranda where you unwind in seclusion.

The undisputed star of Bandhavgarh is the tiger and you'll have plenty of opportunities to go looking for these beautiful large cats as well as leopard, sloth bear and several species of deer during your stay at Tigers Den Resort. There are daily safaris in open jeeps led by local naturalist guides who have an extensive knowledge of the park, its flora and fauna. You can also take an elephant-back ride into areas the jeeps can't reach, which is a good way to get sightings of tigers and other wildlife.

It's not all about wildlife. You can trek to Bandhavgarh Fort, one of the oldest in India. It remains in private hands so you cannot enter the building but there are plenty of statues and temples to be seen in the environs, and the fort makes a striking photographic subject. Visits can also be arranged to Tala village for an insight into rural life.

Back at the lodge you can take a stroll around the gardens, where labels help you identify different tree and plant species. The pool is especially welcome on a hot day providing relief from the heat as well as beneficial exercise. Meals are sociable affairs eaten in the open-sided restaurant with a choice of tempting buffet dishes. You can also dine outdoors in the gardens, and afternoon tea is usually taken on the terrace, shaded from the sun.
