The Zanzibari

Tanzania

Unfortunately at this time of the year the beach had been washed away.TRIBES REPLY: This is a natural phenomenon. The northern Kaskazi winds can sometimes blow sand away revealing rock beneath from about January to April. From June through the rest of the year the beach is sandy though.

Our Frangipani Suite was a true highlight, particularly with its private grounds and sea view. The location of the hotel and its ambience was outstanding. The food was very good. Service was, however, not nearly as efficient as at Selous - frequently slow and often with (minor) errors around orders.

Beautiful, and so relaxing. Plenty to do if you want to be active - but it\'s really easy to lay back and ignore the world for a few days.

Pure luxury! We didn\'t take advantage of the many tours available, choosing instead to just enjoy the local area. However, I will next time! Everything about the hotel was perfect for a truly relaxing end to our safari holiday. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the chef was fantastic - chakula katam (delicious food) every day and the best tuna that I have ever tasted. I have to mention my new friends, Masanja, John Mtenga, John Tajewo and Rashidi who all helped me with my Swahili, gave me an insight into the culture/politics and more than anything treated me like a princess. My sincere thanks to them all.

The accommodation was really nice here - the beds were comfy, and very prettily decorated with flowers on arrival. The gardens are well laid out with a nice swimming pool area and seating area overlooking the sea. There is not a sandy beach here though. The food was very good, with a good choice of breakfasts and 3 choices of main meal in the evenings. The bar area was made from a Dhow - including sail which was very unusual and attractive. The main problem whilst we were there was the unreliable electricity supply.

Great feeling of space. The gardens stretch from the rooms to the pool and on to the edge of the cliff, with lots of chairs, loungers, tables and sunshades to choose from.  Easy to relax and watch the dhows sail by… It’s a short walk along the beach (at low tide) to the aquarium and turtle sanctuary, beyond which is the village and then the resort, which is quite built up. The Zanzibari is at the quieter eastern end of Nungwi. It’s not for those wanting vibrant nightlife, but fine for quiet relaxation.
