Open: Bamboo Forest Lodge is open all year. Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is fully open from 15th October to 30th June, with limited safaris available in the other (monsoon), months.

Location: The lodge is 6 kms (a 10-minute drive) from the Kolara Gate to Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. The nearest airport is in Nagpur, about a 2-hour drive.

Rooms: There are 9 villas, each with 65 sqm of space composed of a bedroom, bathroom, dressing room and veranda facing the lake. They are set in private gardens and all have an open-air bathtub screened by plants. There are also 3 chalets, each with 4 rooms, ideal for families and groups of friends. All have air conditioning, satellite TV, tea and coffee maker, minibar and WiFi.

Activities: All nature activities are led by a naturalist guide from Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge. Safaris in Tadoba take place in customised jeeps in the morning and afternoon, lasting up to 5 hours and 3 hours respectively when the park is fully open. You can take a nature walk accompanied by a guide, go bird watching and explore the area by night too. There are bikes for exploring the local area.

Facilities: There is a restaurant (more details below), a spa offering a variety of treatments, a shop selling handicrafts and artworks, and a library with a collection of wildlife books you are welcome to look through. The lodge is set in lush gardens with paved walkways linking the different buildings. There is an outdoor swimming pool.

Dining: Machan, the lodge’s restaurant, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves both local and international dishes. Al fresco dining is available by the lake, and there's a rooftop terrace for special meals and celebrations. It should be noted that Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge does not serve alcoholic drinks, as Chandrapur is designated a ‘dry district’ by the state government of Mahashtra.

Children: Children aged 6 years and over are welcome. The ‘Young Naturalists’ programme offers children an insight into local flora and fauna and takes place within the lodge grounds.

Health: We recommend malaria prophylactics for travel to India.

Communication: There is WiFi internet access.

Client Rating for India 5/5 from 130 reviews

The lodge setting was lovely and the people friendly. The ethos of working with the local community was there but the respect and care for the local villagers that had been in our 3 excellent rated accommodations was not really demonstrated. The park drivers were of differing quality and we definitely felt that wanting to look at other wildlife like birds was rather puzzling to the park guide and our guide. A definite tiger focus not wildlife.
