Sanctuary Stanley's Camp is a small luxury, family-friendly camp with just eight tented rooms in a private concession area bordering the Southern end of Moremi Game Reserve on Chief's Island.

This area of Okavango is in a seasonal delta area where the flood waters usually arrive around June, but water access is available most of the year due to the nearby Boro River. The camp is surrounded by ebony and sausage trees and attracts a large number of larger mammals including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs.

Game viewing activities included here are day and night drives in open 4x4 vehicles early morning and late afternoon / evening, plus guided bush walks and mokoro rides.

There are ten luxury tented rooms are all built on decks with comfy chairs where you can sit and enjoy the view. All rooms are en-suite and have been beautifully designed and decorated with contemporary furniture and exquisite African artefacts. The main lounge and dining area is set amongst a natural tree line on a large raised deck giving extensive views over the surrounding flood plains. There is a swimming pool.

Wildlife sightings here are good all year, in the dry season some of the herds of buffalo in the area consist of more than 2000 animals. There are numbers of predators including lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog and the birding is excellent.

Guests here can book an optional elephant interaction activity which takes about 4 hours in the morning, walking and interacting with these semi- habituated elephants. There is a maximum of 10 guests at a time on these activities and they end with a picnic bush lunch, accompanied by the elephants! Doug and Sandy Groves run this Botswana based operation, known as 'Grey Matters' and are committed to the conservation and education of this endangered species. The two elephants (Jabu and Morula) were rescued from a culling operation that left them orphans. Guests are invited to touch and learn about these animals but they do not ride them. During your time with them you gain an understanding of the intelligence and habits of these magnificent creatures and their roles and relationships with humans.

Client Rating for Botswana 5/5 from 120 reviews

Like staying in a 5 star hotel in a remote beautiful location. Some lovely personal touches like a refillable water bottle with your name on, a table laid with glasses, fizzy wine and snacks waiting in a clearing when we got off the plane, electric blankets on the beds, woken up with a hot drink in the mornings.Lovely food with a good choice, friendly staff and impressive tracking from the guide.
