Serra Cafema is considered the most remote camp in Namibia, and it's one of the finest.  Being so far north, the only access is by light aircraft. You won't be disappointed, the setting is idyllic, on the banks of the Kunene River with mountains in the background.  There are just 8 beautifully appointed thatched villas, one of which is a family unit.  They lend themselves perfectly to relaxing in solitary splendour when you are not out exploring the area. The lounge areas are very spacious with comfortable.  The sleeping area has a large mosquito-net draped bed.  The bathroom leads off from this had has both indoor and outdoor showers and excellent views too.  To complete the villa and make the most of the wonderful views, the large sliding doors lead out onto a large deck, complete with sunbeds.  The villas are linked to the main area by a series of raised wooden walkways.

The lounge/bar and dining room are housed in the main thatched building, with bi-folding doors opening the building up to the outdoors on most sides. The wooden deck is huge and leads down to the pool, overlooking the Kunene River.  Meals can be taken al-fresco on the deck or indoors undercover. There is an outdoor sunken lounge area where you can sit and listen to the river flowing past while you enjoy the breeze rustling through the reeds.

Despite the remote location, there is plenty to do here, not least explore the magnificent scenery and search out the wildlife that survives in this hostile environment. Explore the area in a 4x4 vehicle with an experienced guide, then leave the vehicle and opt for a walk to get closer to the smaller flora and fauna.  An exciting quad bike adventure through the sand dunes awaits you, and you can take a visit to a Himba village and with the help of your guide/interpreter learn more about the fascinating customs and beliefs of this nomadic tribe. What better way to finish off the day than a boat ride on the Kunene river to watch the sun go down. Remote bliss!
