If you want to get away from the crowds and spend time enjoying a simple safari lifestyle, Selous Wilderness Camp is for you. The camp is on the southern bank of the Rufiji River, a quiet location well away from other camps and lodges.
Days at Selous Wilderness Camp revolve around game drives. These are timed to coincide with peak animal activity and depart just after dawn returning mid-morning, and then in the late afternoon returning to camp after dark. Boat trips and guided walks supplement these drives to give you a comprehensive safari experience. All activities benefit from your guide's experience and expertise.
There are seven walk-in safari tents, set sufficiently far apart to ensure privacy. Inside they are spacious and comfortable, with ample storage space, fans to keep them cool, and an en-suite bathroom with two stone hand basins plus an outdoor safari shower. Each tent has a veranda facing the river with seats and a hammock, ideal for unwinding between safaris.
There is a central lounge and dining area undercover and within sight of the river where hippos can often be observed. This is a great place to kick back and enjoy conversations with fellow guests or catch up with some reading. Staff enjoy arranging special al fresco meals, a chance for you to appreciate some of their favourite locations, Back in camp there's a swimming pool where you can escape the heat of the sun and enjoy some gentle exercise.

More reviewsWe were lucky enough to have the camp to ourselves. All the staff looked after us tremendously well and took a shine to the boys (13 and 11). Knowledgeable and friendly, Anton looked after us on our safaris, bush walk and excursion to Mlokwa village. Always welcoming and friendly, Gustavo and Sifuni served all our food and drinks; we never met the two chefs but their food was plentiful and delicious. The boatman and the askaris were equally friendly. We slept well in the attractive safari-style tent bedroom and enjoyed listening to the noisy bushbabies above us and hippo in the river.
