Selinda Reserve Botswana

  • A remote, authentic 'Out of Africa' experience
  • Explore on foot, by 4x4, and by canoe (when available)
  • High-quality guiding, accommodation and food
  • Secluded al fresco bathing available
  • Swim in the spillway (when flowing)

Selinda Explorers Camp is in a remote location on the Selinda Spillway, a 90-minute drive from its sister camp, Selinda Camp, in the greater Linyanti region of Botswana. This unique camp run by Great Plains Conservation caters for a maximum of 8 guests, with four tents kept cool by the shade of jackleberry and mangosteen trees. These are custom-designed walk-in tents with lots of space. Each one has an attached bathroom with a flush toilet and shower, open to the sky, and a separate area with twin copper basins. Hot water for the shower and basins is brought to your tent on request. You'll have a veranda where you can doze in a hammock or look out over the African bush.

The chefs cook meals over an open fire and you'll be amazed at the dishes they can conjure up with such basic equipment. Dining is communal, a chance to chat and enjoy conversations with other guests. Most meals are served al fresco though dinner can be served in the open-sided mess tent where lamps provide a gentle glow of light. There's a seating area too, ideal for relaxing out of the heat of the midday sun.

Activities centre on guided walks and canoe rides (if the water is high enough - please check with us before booking if this is key to your wishes), both excellent ways to get close to nature. You can also take game drives into the eastern part of the Selinda Reserve, watching out for large herds of elephant and buffalo, plus sable and roan antelope, lion and wild dog. The wildlife here is superb.
