Savute Under Canvas

Chobe & Savuti Botswana

  • Sleep under canvas in the pristine African bush
  • Twice daily game drives in a predator-rich area
  • Delicious, freshly prepared meals
  • Intimate atmosphere with just 5 tents
  • Wash off the dust with a hot bucket shower

Open: Savute Under Canvas is open all year.

Location: This mobile, fully serviced camp moves between various private campsites in the Savute region of Chobe National Park every 5 days. The camp is served by the Savute airstrip followed by a drive of between 30 and 60 minutes varying according to its precise location.

Rooms: There are 5 traditional walk-in safari tents. The canvas front can be rolled down at night, and during the day it is raised to reveal a mesh curtain that can be unzipped in the centre and the flaps fastened back allowing direct access to the shaded veranda with its 2 safari chairs. There are mesh windows along both sides of the tent, a comfy bed, and an en-suite bathroom with jugs of water and a bowl for washing, a bucket shower for which staff bring hot water and a flush toilet. Bedding and towels are provided.

Activities: You’ll have 2 game drives each day, early in the morning and late in the afternoon, the latter incorporating sundowner drinks and nibbles.

Facilities: There’s a mess tent where meals are served, though many are eaten out in the open, and with seating where you can unwind and sit out the heat of the day. You’ll have a selection of drinks to choose from, and a few reference books to leaf through. After dark the camp fire is the venue for dinner and post-prandial drinks and conversation.

Dining: Meals are eaten together as a group in the mess tent or outdoors in the open.

Children: Children aged 12 years and over are welcome. Tents cannot sleep 3, so children will not be able to share a tent with both parents. Camp sites are unfenced, therefore it is essential that children are kept under close supervision at all times.

Health: This is a malarial area.

Communication: There is no internet access or mobile phone signal. The camp manager communicates with head office using a satellite phone.
