Sand River Masai Mara, part of the Elewana Collection, overlooks the river from which it takes its name. It's located in a game rich area of natural beauty close to the border with Tanzania.

If you want to stay in luxurious surroundings then Sand River could be the one for you. There are 16 tents in total, these are split between two adjacent camps, one with ten tents and the other with six and each with its own main areas. The tents are beautifully decorated in an elegant style, paying homage to the luxury camping safaris of the 1920s. The interior design and decor is immaculate and elegant, including beautifully crafted antique furniture, Persian rugs and polished wooden floors. The en-suite bathroom is equipped with twin hand basins, a copper bathtub and an open air shower. The outdoor viewing deck continues the elegant styling. Overlooking the river, it's an ideal spot for an armchair safari, as you watch the world go by.

Each main area has a traditional mess tent. This is where delicious evening meals are served, the individual tables elegantly laid with white linen, silverware and candles for a romantic ambience. Breakfast and lunch often take place al fresco. There's a comfortable lounge here with large sofas, secluded seating spots and a selection of books for you to peruse. Outside the swimming pool overlooks the river.

Game viewing is good here at any time of year and the Mara is known for concentrations of big cats such as lion, leopard and cheetah. The arrival of the annual migration adds to the abundant wildlife, generally passing through this area from September to November (though this can vary according to the annual rains). Even when the migration is not here, the wildlife doesn't disappoint. Daily game drives are offered and private bush lunches can be arranged as well as bush dinners and romantic sundowner cocktails. Hot air balloon trips to see the Mara from above can be arranged (extra cost applies).
