Open: Salas Camp is open all year apart from May and November.
Location: Salas Camp is in the southern sector of the Masai Mara National Reserve near the confluence of the Sand and Keekerok Rivers. The nearest airstrip is Keekorok, about a 30 minute drive away. Salas Camp is 250kms from Nairobi, about a 5 hour drive.
Rooms: There are 7 luxury tents, including 1 honeymoon/family tent, and the camp accommodates a maximum of 18 guests. All tents are en-suite with hot and cold running water, flush toilet, bathtub and shower. Toiletries are provided, as are towels and bathrobes. You'll have a 'gym in a bag' with a skipping rope, exercise card and yoga mat, and a torch. Each tent has glass doors leading out to a private deck with a private plunge pool, you are also supplied with a watercolour set and artist's pad in each tent if you fancy getting creative.
Activities: Game drives and nature walks by the Sand River, bird watching and star gazing. Hot air balloon rides can be arranged but need to be booked in advance. The annual wildebeest migration can be experienced at Salas from June to October.
Facilities: There is a spacious lounge with a wooden floor, high ceiling, sofas and easy chairs plus and indoor fireplace. It is open to the front and looks out over the plains. Outside there's a deck with a crescent-shaped sofa facing the campfire. The camp offers a laundry service.
Dining: Meals are generally eaten together. Bush breakfasts, lunches and riverbed barbecues are offered. Private dinners can be arranged on request.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome. All children receive a welcome pack with games and quizzes, such as spot the big 5, the little 5 and the ugly 5. Baby sitting is available and needs to be organised in advance. The camp is unfenced so children must be kept under supervision at all times.
Health: This is a malarial area.
Communication: There is wifi internet access in the mess area and mobile phone reception around camp.
Notes: Sala's Camp is owned by The Safari Collection, who also own Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, Sasaab near Samburu National Reserve and Solio Lodge between Mount Kenya and the Aberdares.
