Rusinga Island Lodge is on the shore of Lake Victoria, and its lovely gardens are filled with fragrant blooms and vibrantly-coloured birds. This environment is immediately relaxing, and coupled with warm hospitality, makes the lodge a wonderful base from which to explore the lake and nearby islands. It makes an ideal add-on to a safari, or a peaceful holiday in its own right, and is family friendly, too.

Activities include boat rides on the lake to nearby fishing villages, safaris in Ruma National Park, water sports, bike rides and hikes. The site where the Leakeys made their famous discovery of the Proconsul Heseloni skeleton (the missing link between man and ape) is nearby. At 3,718 feet above sea level, Rusinga Island has a temperate climate making all its activities both pleasurable and viable all year round, though the main rains in April and May may have an impact on some activities. Days here are generally hot and sunny, and in the afternoon an on shore breeze stirs up, making it very pleasant.

Accommodation at Rusinga Island Lodge is in 9 individual cottages and 1 family cottage with 2 bedrooms. Each cottage is en-suite and has its own veranda overlooking the lake. Electricity is provided by both generator and inverter power offering an electrical supply 24-hours a day, there are phone and internet connections. The food is all freshly prepared and many ingredients are grown in the grounds. Local specialities include fish, straight from the lake.
