Staying at Rosie's Homestay gives you a real insight into the local life in Meghalaya. Rosie, the owner, belongs to the Khasi tribes, and acquired the two hectares of land in 2004. Family and friends came together to help her clear the land and plant trees and indigenous plants, as well as building the house.

There are four good sized guest bedrooms, all en-suite. Whilst not luxurious, nor claiming to be, the accommodation is very comfortable, and includes your basic necessities including plugs where you can charge batteries.

There are opportunites to watch local craftspeople at work during your stay, and to spend time in the gardens where, as well as the trees and plants, there's a large pond. This is a good place to unwind. Rosie is happy to spend time with her guests, talking about daily life in Meghalaya. What's more, she's an excellent cook and you'll eat well during your stay. You could even benefit from a cooking class, picking up some tips to boost your culinary credentials.

Rosie is a lovely Khasi lady with plenty of oomph! And she is a great cook too; we had a superbly tasty pork dinner. Her 4 bedrooms are clean and have the basic necessities. Ask her to take you for a walk around her little lake and grounds if you come, and maybe even ask for a cooking lesson. A stay here is not about luxury, it’s about seeing a bit of (middle-class) Khasi life.
