Ronjo is a mobile camp in Central Serengeti, moving to a new site roughly every 6 months. The game viewing is excellent all year and is supplemented by the passing of migration in May-June and November-December. The camp's remote location means that it is frequently visited by animals and you'll often hear the calls of hyenas as you fall asleep at night. This proximity to nature is one of Ronjo Camp's prime attractions.

Game drives are the focus here. These set out early, before sunrise, returning around lunchtime, and again in the late afternoon. These are cooler times of day when animal activity is at its maximum. Longer day safaris with picnic lunches are also possible. There is a hot air balloon launching site near the camp, and taking to the skies is a great way to appreciate the majesty and sheer scale of the Serengeti.

The 16 tents are arranged in an arc around the central mess area. They are traditional safari tents with gauze windows along two sides, simply furnsihed and with en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water. Each tent has a small sitting area to the front, shaded from the sun, which looks out over the plains and Banagi Hills.

The mess area is a large canvas tent which keeps pleasantly cool in the heat of the day. Meals are served here, and this area also houses the bar with its welcoming sofas and chairs. Outside there are two firepits that come into their own around dusk for sundowner drinks, and again after dinner when you can enjoy some fine star gazing.

Client Rating for Tanzania 5/5 from 217 reviews

This was really in the wilderness! You could hear the hyenas calling all round you during the night. Very comfortable tents. I was a bit concerned with this camp as I thought it might be a bit basic but it was very comfortable and was probably one of my favourite camps. Good fun sitting round the camp fire with a sundowner.
