Rohet Wilderness Camp

Open:  Rohet Wilderness Camp is open from 1st October to 31st March.

Location: Rohet Wilderness Camp is 17kms west of the town of Rohet, south of Jodhpur. It is at the edge of the great Thar Desert. The camp is about a 40 minute drive from Jodhpur airport.

Rooms:  There are 7 large guest tents. They are made from canvas, with screened windows and have teak wood floors. Each has either a double or 2 twin beds, easy chairs, a writing desk, hanging and storage space for clothes, bedside tables and lamps. They are kept cool by fans. Each has a safe. Heaters and hot water bottles can be provided on chilly nights. Insect repellents and mosquito coils are available. The bathrooms have sold plaster walls and are equipped with full running water, hand basins and flush toilets. Hairdryers are available on request. There is a shaded deck to the front with a couple of armchairs. The tents are arranged on either side of the central sitting and dining areas.

Activities:  You can visit the local village on a ‘village safari’ pioneered by the owners of the camp to spend time with and get to know different individuals. Other popular options include taking a jeep or camel cart out into the countryside for a relaxing picnic, or saddling up to go horse riding on one of the thoroughbred Marwari horses bred at Rohet (experienced riders only). Bikes are available, too, and you can go for treks in the desert. In winter bird watching is a rewarding way to spend a few hours by the lake. Cookery demonstrations can be organised. Yoga sessions can be arranged. Staff can arrange local excursions on request.

Facilities:  The central areas are solid structures with plaster walls and thatched roofs. The lounge is light and airy, with sofas and an open fire. The dining room cum bar is cosy, and dinner is eaten by lamp ad candlelight. You’ll have the use of the spa at Mihir Garh, a short drive away.

Dining:  Meals are served inside and outdoors when the weather allows. Both Indian and continental dishes are available. There are no set meal times.

Children:  Children of all ages are welcome. One child may be accommodated in their parent’s tent.

Health:  We recommend malaria prophylactics for travel to India.

Communication:  There is no mobile phone coverage and no internet access.

Notes:   The camp accepts Visa and MasterCard. Cash payments are accepted in Indian Rupees only. Travellers cheques are not accepted.
