Rios Tropicales Lodge

Pacuare River Costa Rica

  • Simple but comfortable accommodation
  • Beautiful remote riverside location
  • Whitewater rafting, ziplining, canyoning, hiking, horse riding . . .
  • Tree planting

Open: Rio Tropicales Lodge is open all year.

Location: Rio Tropicales Eco Lodge is located in a large private reserve at the mouth of the Pacuare Gorge.

Rooms: The rooms come in several types from dormitary style rooms with shared bathrooms, to single, double and triple en-suite bedrooms. Each option comes complete with bed linen and towels. The dorm style rooms are rather small so we recommend the en-suite rooms to our guests. The simple rooms are pleasantly decorated and have views of the river. The en-suite bathroom houses the toilet, basin and shower.

Activities: There are several guided tours on offer - the Rainforest Reforestation Tours involves a hike to the top of the Pacuare Gorge where you plant a tree. Take a guided tour in the Pacuare Protected Zone. Go ziplining or enjoy a canyoning and canopy combo tour. To see a little more take to horseback and visit the local community.

Facilities: There lodge has a restaurant serving delicious cuisine made from local produce. There's also a bar, lounge area and hammock deck.

Dining: The kitchen team provide excellent meals starting the day with a breakfast buffet. There's even a cocktail hour before dinner. Evening meals are served overlooking the river as the sun sets.

Children: Children over 12 years old are welcome in dry season and in the rainy season it becomes 14, this relates to the minimum ages for rafting. Younger children need to travel to and from the lodge by ground transport, accompanied by an adult and in this case the minimum age is 8.

Communication: There is no Wi-Fi, internet access or mobile phone coverage in this remote location.

A truly memorable experience. Incredible scenery and wildlife. Our guide Jonny was first class and felt safe and looked after throughout the rafting trip.
