Rhino Safari Camp occupies a superb spot on the shores of Lake Kariba inside Matusadona National Park, a big 5 area.  As well as having access to the park itself, the camp also enjoys exclusive access the its own private area. It's a simple, rustic and authentic camp with an outdoorsy feel.  It's owner run by Jenny Nobes and on meeting her you will immediately see her passion for the wilderness and the wildlife it contains and it's fairly contageous. You can wake each morning to the cries of the African Fish Eagle, fall asleep to the grunting of hippo or the slow munching of elephants as they feed nearby. The camp isn't fenced so animals are free to wander through.

The main building is a two storey affair.  The lower level has a sandy floor giving a beachy feel to the main building, and here you will find the lounge, bar and dining area.  Upstairs, shaded by a thatch roof is another lounge area and an alternative dining venue with stunning views of the lake.  Wholesome, tasty, home-cooked food is served at a large communal table, dinner is often hosted by Jenny herself. The sides to this building are open allowing the breezes to flow through. There is a small pool set to the front which is perfect for a refreshing dip in the afternoon heat.

Accommodation is in 7 thatched chalets, each on its own stilt platform along the shoreline. Reed half walls at the sides and back allow for natural ventilation. The open fronts are screened with drop-down reed mats. The rooms are spacious and have comfortable twin beds, a wardrobe, seating area and dressing table. All this is complimented by the stunning views of the lake. At the back of each room, at a slightly lower level, is the en-suite with open air shower, flush toilet and hand basin. Hot running water is in plentiful suppy. 

Rhino Safari Camp may be at the simple, no fuss end of the scale, but the service, guiding, food and hospitality are not compromised in the slightest. The activities centre mainly around the water with sunset cruises a must and fishing here is popular with tiger fish and the vundu catfish in abundance.  Walking safaris are done here with the experienced guides and there is the option of vehicle safaris too, which are often combined with walking.
