The 24 en-suite rooms of Rhino Lodge are in a forest setting some way back from the Crater rim. The main house was where Ngorongoro’s first conservationist lived. It looks a bit like a school, and there is nothing fancy about this low-impact lodge – it is just simple and clean. However the staff are friendly, the food is plentiful and tasty, and the lodge gets generally very good feedback.

The rooms each have a small verandah, there is an en-suite bathroom with a shower, and a small wood-burning stove for chilly evenings – and you get a hot water bottle if it’s particularly cold!

The lounge/dining area has 2 large fireplaces and comfy sofas where you can relax and chat about the day's events and activities.

This is obviously a great base from which to take game drives in the Ngorongoro. However you might also like to do some walks from the lodge and maybe visit a local Maasai village.

Rhino Lodge operates in conjunction with local Maasai communities and some of your fee supports these communities and contributes to protecting the delicate balance between the Maasai's pastoralist lifestyle, conservation and tourism.
