Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is the most upmarket option in the jungle. It is a really smart lodge situated in a private reserve, surrounded by a vast jungle canopy adjacent to Tambopata National Reserve. Accommodation is in 35 private very stylish thatched-roof cabanas. These have hot showers, electricity, bath robes and slippers and ceiling fans. Each room also has its own screened porch with a hammock for peaceful relaxation.
The dining pavilion is an amazing building. It's massive and is imaginatively built around the trunk of a fig tree. They offer an à-la-carte menu of regional and international cuisine based on fresh local ingredients and of a very good standard. There are separate bar and lounge areas and also balconies with views over the surrounding forest.
There is also a gift shop in the main building. The lodge's ENA Spa offers various treatments combining classic nurturing with the exotic ingredients of the Amazon. On offer are all kinds of pampering including massage, reflexology and reiki.
Reserva Amazonica offers a variety of guided excursions which are operated on an à-la-carte basis. You choose which ones you want to join each day. These range from a couple of hours through to full day excursion and they have taken the trouble to grade each activity in terms of difficulty levels so you know exactly what you are letting yourself in for. On this excursions menu you'll find things like walks on the rainforest trail system or around their rainforest garden looking at plants and animals and talking about some of the traditional medicinal uses; there's a night walk to search out nocturnal life; an afternoon to a nearby farm to look at tropical fruits and vegetables, followed by a paddle down a secluded creek in a dugout canoe looking at the birds and maybe spotting monkeys and other jungle animals; a visit to nearby Sandoval Lake gives you the opportunity to look for giant river otter and red-bellied macaws as well as several monkey species and some really amazing jungle scenery.
The canopy walkway very close to the lodge is one of the longest in South America. It enables you to walk through the treetops for more than quarter of a mile, over 31 metres above the forest floor. This is a really spectacular construction and gives you a fascinating view of the rainforest.
If you're looking for a really unique experience you can even spend the night up in the treetops! At one end of the canopy walkway they have built a treehouse room. Inkaterra´s Canopy Tree House offers utter seclusion amidst the splendor of the Peruvian South Eastern Amazon. It's built on a private platform 27 metres above the forest floor. It is a proper bedroom with mosquito netting screens and is fully serviced - even your evening meal is brought up to you and served with style in the treetops. This room is just for two people so you have the jungle to yourself for the night, but of course there are always staff on hand nearby should you require anything.

Client Rating for Peru 5/5 from 58 reviews
More reviewsGood comfortable accommodation in individual cottages. Front office staff were pleasant and helpful. Food and service in the restaurant were excellent. Limited excursions for a short visit. The walk in the tree canopy was disappointing as the only thing seen were the tops of trees and 2 birds!
