Masai Mara Kenya

  • Classic tented safari camp
  • Great location for the game viewing and the migration
  • Small, personal camp with high-quality friendly service

Rekero Camp is a luxurious tented property priding itself on providing a warm welcome. Rekero Camp's wild riverside setting is at the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Being so close to both the Mara and Talek rivers, Rekero provides you with an ideal opportunity to view the annual migration crossings from the comfort of your armchair.

The camp provides high-quality game drives and walking safaris to give you an in-depth understanding of the region's wildlife. The local landscape is predominantly rolling grassland hills, interspersed with riverine forests. Expert guides ensure that the wide range of resident wildlife can be viewed in relative peace and solitude. Grazing animals such as elephants, buffalo, impala, topi and various gazelle are common in this area while it is not unheard of for leopard, cheetah, lion and rhino all to be spotted in a morning game drive. In addition, Maasai community visits are available and are often the highlight of a stay at Rekero Camp. It's also possible to hear a presentation from a Kenya Wildlife Trust researcher, which needs to be booked in advance.

This small and exclusive camp is set up seasonally (June - March) and has just 9 tents, each having an uninterrupted view of the Talek riverbank. All are en-suite and furnished to a high standard. Dining is generally alfresco and in dinner party style with guests exchanging experiences and sights over a glass of wine. Camp chefs produce appetising 'farmhouse' meals while special dietary requirements can be catered for. The camp is unfenced meaning that during the night elephants, hippos and even leopards are known to wander amongst the tents. It is for this reason that Maasai askari (wardens) escort you back to your tent after dark.

Client Rating for Kenya 5/5 from 58 reviews

Oh my word, I love this place! I could sit and look at the view for days on end, and at the right time of the year, you could even be lucky and see the migration pass right in front of your eyes here. With good hosting, game vehicles and guiding, you can't lose with this camp.
