Enjoy the outdoor life at Refugio do Mamangua. Go swimming and canoeing in the sheltered waters of the Saco do Mamangua, a tropical fjord, and enjoy hikes in the forest and up to Sugar Loaf Peak for panoramic views. This is a stunningly beautiful area and Refugio do Mamangua, on the water's edge, is the perfect place from which to explore. The owners, Paulo and Cris, and their staff make you feel welcome from the outset.
Accommodation is in suites that are set at varying distances from the water. They are cosy, with simply furnished interiors cooled by ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms and verandas with colourful hammocks. This simplicity is in keeping with the style of the lodge, which focusses your attention on the lovely natural suroundings.
Breakfast and dinner are eaten in the restaurant, beneath a thatched roof, open to the front for sea views. Feast on fresh fish and seafood, crafted into traditional dishes, and at lunchtime you can walk or paddle to one of the nearby restaurants, as recommended by lodge staff.
