Porini Lion Camp

Olare Motorogi Reserve, Masai Mara Kenya

Staff all great. We were very well looked after. Food again was very good. Nelson and James were our driver and guide who were excellent. Sat in the jeep and had a sundowner watching a large pride of 15 lions. Saw so many lions here, a female cheetah with her 4 cubs and every time we saw her, she had always just made a kill. Also saw 2 leopard, the first one was Figlet, daughter of Fig who was resting under someone's car. She was very comfortable. Unfortunately we did not see the thousands of plains animals we had hoped to see as the migration had been very different this year. The animals had kept crossing and then crossing back and had not really stayed like they usually do.

Of all the Mara conservancies, Olare Motorogi is currently (2017) known as the very best place to spot big cats. It has been the case for some time now, so seems likely to continue. The conservancy has just 5 camps, and Porini Lion is a very good choice if you're not going for the top end expensive properties (Mara Plains, Olare Kempinski, Mahali Maurice). Also consider Kicheche Bush Camp. Porini Lion camp’s staff and guides are professional and friendly, and they have good vehicles too. Many people I met here were repeat guests, which says a lot. I'd return with pleasure.

A bigger camp so more organised and less personal. The guides depth of knowledge of the area and its wildlife was phenomenal.

For a slightly more up market camping experience, this was perfect. The team there were extremely professional, yet relaxed and friendly. Nothing was too much bother for them. The conservancy has a lot more of the big cats (albeit a lot of them asleep!!) so that was a great opportunity to top off all the other wildlife we'd seen.

What a magnificent setting for the camp. Set in trees, by a river, with the Mara plain all around and many animals. The Massai were really nice people. Most of the staff in all the camps are Massai. They giggle a lot!

Totally an eco-friendly establishment situated in a very relaxing location. The tents were spacious and well equipped with flush toilets and hot water provided for showers. The service provided by the staff was very attentive, but not over obtrusive and one could relax easily after the game drives. The food was excellent and well prepared and presented.
