Set into the cliff face opposite the distinctive white form of Leopard Rock, Phinda Rock Lodge has just six suites. Nestled among the trees, with thick adobe walls and chunky wooden doors and shutters, they feel rustic and cosy. The bed faces the large window for panoramic views. There is an indoor sitting area and outdoors each suite has large deck with a table and chairs, ideal for private dining, and a rim flow plunge pool. The bathroom has a shower and a full size bath placed by the large window. Little touches like the bathrobes and the ‘gym in a bag’ with weights, skipping rope and yoga mat, are a thoughtful addition.

The main lodge consists of the dining room with wooden beams and a long table for communal dining, and a cosy lounge, both with large fireplaces. These rooms lead out to a wide, partially shaded, deck with plenty of seating, from where you can watch birds in the trees and animals at the waterhole. The boma is a lovely setting for sundowner drinks, which are arranged on the hanging wooden table suspended from large tree branches, with lanterns similarly suspended providing soft lighting. Dinner is also served here from time to time.

Phinda Private Game Reserve offers varied game viewing by 4x4, boat and on foot, all of which you can experience from this lodge. More specialised activities such as tracking black rhino on foot, photographic safaris and visiting a local village, are also possible. The proximity to the coast means that you can spend a day at the beach, enjoying water-based activities of you wish.
