From its mountain-top location, Phinda Mountain Lodge provides panoramic views over the trees and plains below. Relaunched in June 2019 after an extensive refurbishment, the lodge’s layout has been designed so that from both private and public areas there are uninterrupted views.

Phinda is a Big 5 safari destination which you can explore by open vehicle, boat and on foot, all led by an expert guide eager to impart knowledge and enthusiasm for the environment and its wildlife. Specialist photographic safaris can be arranged, subject to the vehicle availability. The 23,000 hectare private reserve has no fewer than seven habitats so there’s plenty to explore plus specialist activities such as tracking black rhino. Staff can also arrange cultural visits and trips to the beach.

Between times you have the run of the lodge with its open terraces, cosy courtyard, lounge with books and games, and dining room. There’s a small swimming pool and sunbathing area, and paths cross-crossing the grounds for gentle strolls.

Each of the guest suites has an indoor sitting room, and bathroom with a full size bath and twin hand basins plus an outdoor shower. It is also equipped with a private veranda with a plunge pool and loungers. With 3 specially designed family cottages and 1 family suite, children are welcome at Phinda Mountain Lodge, and there is a children’s programme of activities to keep them entertained.
