Each cottage is constructed from stone, and is entered through sliding glass doors. Interiors are a blend of rustic h feature stone walls and floors, and contemporary comforts such as air conditioning, minifridge and electronic safe. There is a large bathroom with a central shower, twin hand basins and toiletries. Outdoors you have a private veranda complete with an opulent sala (shaded daybed) with Khajuraho-inspired carvings, where you rest out of the heat of the sun.

Communal areas include a lounge, terrace and outdoor pool. Dining is an important part of your stay and meals are given a real sense of occasion at Pashan Garh, where you sample the local cuisine, enjoy breakfast in the park, and eat dinner by lamplight. If you want to pick up some culinary tips you can join the chef for a masterclass in the interactive kitchen.

Pashan Garh provides customised 4x4 vehicles for morning and afternoon safaris in Panna National Park, led by experienced guides. Panna is an area of forests, ravines and waterfalls and is home to tigers, sloth bears, leopards, jackals, Indian wild dogs and crocodiles plus hundreds of species of birds, so your safaris should be full of sightings. If you want to view things from a different perspective, elephant-back safaris can be arranged, too.

Anyone interested in culture and history will enjoy a visit to the Hindu and Jain temples at Khajuraho, just an hour away. It is believed there were originally over 80 separate temples here built between the 10th and 12th centuries, of which 25 remain, decorated with sensual carvings.
