Location: Palais de Mahe is in the French Quarter of Pondicherry, sometimes called the ‘France of India’, on the Coromandel coast. It is just a short walk from the Promenade in one direction, the main square in another, and the shops of MR Road and Mission Street. The railway station is 2kms away and the airport (domestic flights only) is 6kms from the hotel. Chennai international airport is about a 3-hour drive from the hotel.

Rooms: The hotel has 18 rooms. They are air conditioned, have a minibar, tea and coffee maker, flatscreen TV and en-suite bathroom. There is room service.

Activities: Take strolls around town, to the waterfront and around the French Quarter and in the public park. Go shopping, visit restaurants and cafes. Places of note include The Eglise des Notre Dame des Anges, Aurobindo Ashram which offers yoga and meditation classes, and the Ganesha temple. The hotel has bicycles for guest use.

Facilities: The hotel has a quiet reading area, terrace, bar, restaurant and café. Recreational facilities include a courtyard swimming pool with a deck and loungers, and a spa offering Ayurveda treatments.

Dining: The main restaurant, Mahe de Malabar serves Indian and continental dishes with a choice of wines, and has a rooftop terrace. Fish features prominently and there are good vegetarian choices. The poolside café serves a range of hot and cold drinks plus snacks. Meals are eaten at individual tables.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome, though there are no specific facilities for children and the pool is adults only. Cots and extra beds can be requested at an additional charge.

Health: We recommend malaria prophylactics for travel to India.

Communication: There is free Wi-Fi internet access, though this can be patchy.
