Pachira Lodge is simple, friendly and very comfortable with an ideal location, close to the main gate of Tortuguero National park.  The lodge sits on a narrow strip of land, surrounded by rainforest and the winding waterways of Tortuguero's canals, so access to the hotel is only by boat or air - it adds to the ambience. Pachira was built to blend in with the surroundings and have minimal impact on the rainforest and those who live here. The rooms are simple and clean - they have everything you might need such as a ceiling fan, private bathroom, veranda, but they have deliberately omitted the things you won't need, no TV is required when you have the sights and sounds of nature on your doorstep.

There is a quirky turtle shaped pool in the grounds, just in case you forgot what Tortuguero is all about, it's right on the edge of forest so you can spot wildlife from your lounger. Wholesome local and international meals are served in the restaurant. If you want to escape from everything for an hour or so, pop over to the spa and indulge in one of their pampering treatments.

Whilst you are here, you can pay a visit to a local village and get an insight into everyday life in the region, or why not take a canal tour at dawn as the forest awakens, it's a beautiful time of day to explore. There is plenty to do in the rainforest, canopy tours can be arranged, guided walks through the lodge trails, kayaking and during season it's quite something to take a tour to the beach and see the turtles haul themselves up the beaches to nest.
