Location: Nayara Gardens is in lush gardens on a hill within sight of Arenal Volcano and bordering the national park. The nearest town is La Fortuna de San Carlos, a 10-minute drive away. San Jose airport is about 3 hours away.
Rooms: There are 50 casitas (bungalows) and suites. Casitas are 79 square metres and suites cover 105 square metres. Each has its own secluded garden with an outdoor shower or double showers for the suites, Jacuzzi and hammock. Indoors there is a flat-screen TV with a DVD and CD player, i-Home audio system, direct dial phone, minibar, coffee maker, safe, hairdryer and bathroom stocked with toiletries. All have WiFi and twice-daily maid service.
Activities: Lots of activities are available in Arenal Volcano National Park, including guided nature walks, bird watching in the hotel gardens, hiking, take the canopy tour which consists of 12 platforms and 10 zip lines, climbing, mountain biking, horse riding, white water rafting and fishing. You can take a tour of a local coffee plantation and relax in thermal springs.
Facilities: The main restaurant, Altamira, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and serves local and international dishes in a large covered area and on the terrace. There's also a specialist sushi restaurant, a tapas bar and a poolside bar providing drinks and snacks. Private dinners can be arranged. The spa offers messages, health and beauty treatments administered in individual bungalows. Other facilities include a steam room and a small gym. There's an outdoor free form swimming pool and sunbathing deck with loungers and daybeds. There are several jacuzzis in the gardens. You can start each day with a free yoga class in the outdoor studio if you wish. The hotel offers free international phone calls.
Dining: Meals are eaten at individual tables in the restaurants.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome. Casitas can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children.
Health: Costa Rica has only a low risk of malaria.
Communication: There is free WiFi internet access throughout the hotel, including in guest accommodation. Laptops are provided for guest use.

More reviewsHow could you not like Nayara? After a very long and tedious transfer it was an oasis. The room was luxurious with a hot tub on the balcony and a second shower outside in the private little garden. The staff were very friendly and efficient and we had a bottle of sparking wine left for us in the room. The food at the hotel was also very good - but, as you would expect - not cheap.
