Musekese Camp in Kafue National Park is owned and operated by two safari enthusiasts, Phil Jeffery and Tyrone McKeith, who dreamed of introducing people to this remote and beautiful part of Zambia to enjoy walking safaris, still one of the main activities offered here. Musekese Camp was constructed with the help of the local community, many of whom are now employed here, and the result is a welcoming, rustic camp by a permanent lagoon where you watch animals and birds as you relax.
Walking safaris are arguably the best way to explore and get a feel for the bush, imbued with a sense of immediacy and total immersion in nature. With the expert knowledge of your guide, you are able to spot signs and tracks, observe insects, learn about different plants, and there's the prospect of encountering bug game too! You also have the chance to set out in a 4x4 to cover larger distances and enjoy different areas and habitats of Kafue National Park. Among the wildlife you can expect to see are buffalo, elephant and many species of antelope, with predators including lion, leopard and, occasionally, cheetah. Birdlife is profuse, with some 200 species seen in the camp's vicinity, and specialised bird-watching walks are arranged. The camp's boat is available for cruises on the Kafue River, and more wildlife viewing opportunities.
Activities are balanced by time spent resting in camp, watching animals by the lagoon and savouring high-quality cuisine around the communal dining table. Your chalet is a simple structure of wood and canvas walls with a reed-thatched roof. There is a spacious open bathroom with a shower, and flush loo and you have a shaded veranda for secluded relaxation.
