Monteverde Lodge and Gardens

Costa Rica

Outstanding staff. Very friendly every time you met them. Really nice room with wonderful view. Food was excellent, wonderful presentation and taste, but limited choice and expensive (like all hotel restaurants in Costa Rica). Loved the butterfly room and outdoor pool. Very relaxing garden area. Nice to have a town nearby, with a few things to do, although not memorable.

Accommodation was comfortable and staff were helpful. Location near small town was good and was easy to walk to restaurants. The problem was that the hotel was closing for the season as we were staying there (and only 3 rooms were occupied). The upside was the staff were very friendly and paid for us to eat at a local (very good) restaurant as the hotel restaurant was closed for one night. The downside was that the hotel lacked atmosphere as there was almost no one else staying there and that work was going on when we stayed.

The accomodation was great (although not quite as good as Lomas del Volcan) and looked out on to the lovely gardens. The grounds really made this hotel and it had a heated outdoor pool. We liked the restaurant and bar and I really appreciated the tea/coffee making facilities in the lobby

Lovely small hotel, with character and charm. Great friendly staff. Great restaurant food and we enjoyed a first floor room with balcony so we could sit out and wildlife spot when we had a few minutes free. Would recommend this

Our favourite lodge! Calm and peaceful with a small but pleasant pool area, lovely balcony room well worth the upgrade. The staff were all excellent, cocktails amazing!! Great location on the edge of the village so you can walk to a bar/restaurant in 10 minutes.

Lovely quiet Lodge. Near enough to walk to 'eat out' as an alternative to dining in the hotel. Stall very pleasant and helpful

The hotel was really nice. Really well situated and we enjoyed the short trails around the hotel where we often saw agoutis. The room was really nice, spacious and clean. The window had a lovely view, however, personally we would have enjoyed a room with a balcony more as we like to sit outside. The restaurant was nice and we ate lunch there a couple times, the breakfast was also very nice. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The pool was nice and warm! We enjoyed relaxing by the pool after a long walk and even got lunch served down by the pool one day which was a nice touch. We also saw a troup of capuchins whilst by the pool one day and a coati!

Loved it. Beautiful hotel with lovely comfortable room. Peaceful relaxing grounds (and hammocks) with very warm pool. Fascinating to see the cloud sweep into the valley as evening approached. Outstanding food at the lodge, and an equally fine range of restaurants in the town. Frog visitor attraction worth a visit (free re-entry at night when the frogs are more evident), as they may be more difficult to spot in the wild. It was a joy to hear the local school band playing in the town to raise cash for TeeShirts to wear at the national championships.

Loved this too. Very environment and location aware. Lovely restaurant with excellent food. Restaurant well known in the area. Good location - easy to walk in to town and to some of the local exhibits - e.g. orchid garden. Again staff very helpful. Lovely views and a variety of animals in the garden.

We were two of only four guests so had undivided attention. Wonderful views of the forest from the room and a great balcony. The gardens were amazing and the pool was fantastic. Being the only people in the pool in lovely sunshine with toucans and spider monkeys in the surrounding trees was a stand out moment.

What an experience in this fantastic hotel. The grounds were full of wildlife with lovely walks. Restaurant food was fantastic and great to have a choice for breakfast, coffee and tea available all day. The staff were amazing and the little touches like turning the beds down with the added fresh water and cookies was lovely and homemade cake. Able to walk into the town which was great.

Beautiful setting, loved the butterfly garden and location was excellent. Quality of breakfast was great and better for the waistline than buffet!

Again a nice hotel with a good friendly feel to it, despite it’s size. There were several warnings about the monkeys, but we didn’t hear or see a single one! We liked the fact that we could walk into town, which we did to eat out as the hotel restaurant seemed expensive. We didn’t have enough time to really explore the grounds as much as we would have liked.

Cold and wet but the lodge was perfect. They lit a log fire and had a constant supply of tea and yummy cakes in reception. The staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The food was to die for and the drinks were pretty good too! I really enjoyed visiting the Serpentarium, just down the road, so many different species of snake and so well cared for. Loved their butterfly house.

Second floor room with views over the adjacent river valley from our small but adequate balcony where a highlight. The little trails in the garden were fun. Lovely garden views from the first floor restaurant were great in the morning watching Parrots and Hummingbirds, a Coati climbing a tree at breakfast bliss.

This was a bit of a favorite - even though it was not as luxurious as Nayara it had a lovely feel to it. The grounds were pretty and spread out into nice walks. The pool was exceptionally lovely and you could relax in little areas that the hotel had set up in the garden with hammocks and reading sites etc. The rooms were comfortable and the housekeeping staff would leave iced water in the rooms at night with little chocolates etc. They would also make sure you had closed the windows or risk the monkeys coming in and making off with your things. The food was also very good - again one of our top places.
