Open: Mont Rochelle is open all year.

Location: The hotel is just outside the town of Franschhoek in the Winelands. It is about a 45-minute drive from Cape Town. Stellenbosch and Paarl are both about 35 minutes away by car. It is located on a farm and vineyard that covers some 100 acres.

Rooms: There are 22 en-suite rooms made up of 4 Shiraz rooms (30-31sq m), 6 Merlot rooms (33-39sq m), 6 Cabernet rooms (40sq m), 4 Pinotage suites (62-83sq m) and 2 Cap Classique suites (80-103sq m). Shiraz rooms have views of the valley or courtyard, Merlot rooms overlook the valley, as do Cabernet rooms which have balconies. The Pinotage suites have lounges and the Cap Classique suites each have a sitting room, private terrace and plunge pool. Amenities in all rooms include flat screen TV, mini speakers for music, tea and coffee maker, well stocked minibar, safe, plug adaptor, umbrella, bathrobes, toiletries and a hairdryer. Rooms have individual climate control.

Activities: You can go hiking in Mont Rochelle Reserve where there are trails for varying durations, between 3 and 8 hours, go walking on paths through the farm, go horse riding, explore by mountain bike, play a round of golf at one of the nearby courses, and enjoy a tour of Mont Rochelle winery. Franschhoek has many shops, cafes and galleries and is well worth a visit.

Facilities: These include a communal lounge and 2 restaurants: Miko, the main restaurant, for formal dining and special occasions, and the Country Kitchen near the wine cellar which specialises in lighter meals and is open for lunch and dinner. You can enjoy hot and cold drinks on the bar and out on the terrace. Outside there are attractive gardens surrounding the house and an inviting swimming pool, heated in cooler months, plus loungers for sunbathing and relaxing. There’s a hammam for deep cleansing treatments, and 2 spa treatment rooms where you can have a therapeutic massage or beauty treatment. The hotel has a gym with treadmills, exercise bikes and weights.

Dining: Meals are served at individual tables at both restaurants. Picnics can be prepared on request and eaten in the hotel’s grounds. Wines from the large cellar make a perfect accompaniment to meals.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome. Some rooms can take extra beds for youngsters. There is selection of games for children, plus a TV, DVD player and games console. Baby-sitting can be arranged if booked and paid for in advance.

Health: This is not a malarial area.

Communication: There is free Wi-Fi internet access throughout the hotel.
