Mdonya Old River Camp

Ruaha National Park Tanzania

Amazing place and amazing staff, especially our driver Thomas and guide Henry. They couldn't have done more to make our stay memorable. And great camp hosts, Iris and Kingsley. Far from being a basic camp, but really surrounded by the bush and it's animal occupants - lots of animal noises at night, including lions.

Whilst I didn’t stay the night here, I stopped to look around and have lunch. Apart from having a very tasty lunch, I really liked what I saw of this camp. Simple as it is, I can absolutely see what many of our clients come back loving this place, and being visited at lunch by one of the 9 elephants that like walking through camp was a real bonus!

We really felt we were camping in the bush. The sound of the animals at night, the muted conversations around the campfire and the dedication of all the staff made this camp very special.

First impression was that it looked like English parkland because it had rained recently, apart from the giraffe and Impala wandering by! Very nice couple running the camp, good to mix with fellow guests at mealtimes.

It was my favourite since the animals literally wandered around and through the camp. There were impalas, baboons and a \"naughty\" elephant who entertained us with his antics. It is also worth mentioning that this camp is at 1000 meters above sea level and thus can be cool in the AM or late in the PM. And the camp provides docking stations to charge electronics and camera batteries. ;-)

Very comfortable but still connected to the bush. International, younger and more adventurous, but fewer people (max three others I think). A Swedish couple were there for three nights and a very irritating young Italian couple were there for a couple of nights, but I had one night completely on my own in the camp.
