Maweninga Camp

  • Hospitable Maasai hosts and staff
  • Amazing views over lakes and plains
  • Close to Tarangire for wildlife watching
  • Tents set at the edge of the kopje
  • Large terrace and firepit

Open: Maweninga Camp is open all year.

Location: Maweninga Camp is in the northwest of Tarangire National Park, on the top of a tall kopje (rocky granite outcrop), with views over the Rift Valley, Lake Burunge and Lake Manyara. Tents and buildings have been constructed to fit into the rocky terrain. The camp is about 9 miles from the main Tarangire gate at the northern tip of the park.

Rooms: There are 16 guest tents built along the edge of the kopje, with verandas making the most of the views. They are spacious with bedrooms, dressing areas and private shower rooms with hand basin, flush toilet and running water. The water is solar-heated. There is 24-hour solar-powered electricity.

Activities: From Maweninga you can take game drives in Tarangire National Park. The camp does not have resident guides or vehicles, so it’s best to visit with your own guide.

Facilities: There is a large thatched restaurant or mess, with open sides so you can enjoy views over the valley as you dine. Outside there’s a terrace and a firepit. Adjacent to this is the bar which has a cosy interior as well as sunny and shaded outdoor areas.

Dining: The food is good and meals are eaten at individual tables.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome. They should be kept under supervision at all times.

Health: This is a malarial area.

Communication: There is no internet access.

Nice tents and good food. Lovely experience to see the sunset seated on cushions on a huge boulder.
