Mara Plains Camp has a secluded setting on the banks on the Ntiakatek River on the 14,000 hectare Olare Motorogi conservancy. Reached by a grand swing bridge, there are just 7 tented rooms accommodating a maximum of 14 guests, to ensure an intimate experience. It is one of just 5 camps in the conservancy, so very few other vehicles operate here meaning you can enjoy game drives in relative privacy. Mara Plains Camp is a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux group.
Guest tents are spacious, light and airy with floor to ceiling net walls that open to the air on three sides. They have a dressing area as well as an en-suite bathroom with twin hand basins, shower and flush toilet. The decor evokes memories of the elegant colonial era, with leather, wood, copper snd brass used to great effect. They are set on raised wooden decks and have private verandas with views of the sweeping savannahs. Children aged 8 years and over are welcome and can be accommodated with parents in the family suite.
The central area comprises 3 inter-connected open-air tents which house 2 living rooms, one of which has a small library and writing area, and the dining room with its large feature dining table and impressive chandelier. Meals are served here and on the open deck. This is also a good place to relax between game drives. There is a camp fire where guests can congregate after dinner swapping stories of the day's activities.
Mara Plains Camp offers early morning and late afternoon game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. These take guests into the Olare Orok Conservancy, Mara North Conservancy and also into Masai Mara Game Reserve, whose northern border is just 2kms from the camp. Guests can also enjoy night game drives in the private conservancies. The camp also arranges visits to local Maasai villages to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the community. Back in camp guests are treated to wonderful food and have time to relax on the deck or on their own veranda. It is possible to go bird spotting along the river, too, with a guide from the camp. Balloon safaris can be organised (book and pay in advance) to view the wildlife and terrain from a different perspective, and add a flourish to your safari holiday.
The Olare Motorogi conservancy is leased from the local Maasia community and conservation fees help support over 1,000 families, so your stay here makes a positive difference to the lives of local people.
