Manatus Hotel

Manatus Hotel

Manatus Hotel is one of the more luxurious places to stay at Tortuguero and we highly recommend it.

  • Watch turtles hatch on the beach July to October.
  • Riverfront setting.
  • Beautiful gardens and surroundings.
  • Panoramic views from the deck.
  • Private reserve.

Tortuguero is a unique and exotic place, it has a feeling of the undiscovered and untouched wilderness about it. Here you can experience wildlife, adventure and relaxation. There are only a few roads, so transportation is mostly by boat and air, adding to the feeling of remoteness.

This is where you will find Manatus Hotel. There are just 12 beautifully appointed rooms designed to enhance your holiday experience. The rooms are spacious, elegant and decorated in soft, neutral tones. The rooms are uncluttered, with beautiful wooden floors and high ceilings. Dashes of colour adorn the rooms, reminding you that you are on the Caribbean coast. The luxury here is not out of place in the rainforest and fits well with the luscious forest surroundings. The service at Manatus is excellent, they want you to enjoy your stay here. There is a spa for papering treatments, a fitness room, a bar serving cold beers, welcome after a day out exploring the area and the restaurant serves gourmet food with a Caribbean twist. Located on the edge of the Tortuguero canal, there are plenty of places to relax and enjoy the scenery too either sunbathing by the pool, or seeking a shady spot on the deck, or a gentle walk along the trails in the hotel grounds.

Turtles are one of the main attractions in Tortuguero, leatherbacks nest from February to April; and the hawksbill and green turtles from July to October. But there is plenty of wildlife here from sloths and monkeys in the forest canopy to toucans and other colourful birds down to crocodiles in the winding canals and waterways. There is always plenty to see in each different habitat right down to the colourful frogs, toads and insects. Take a guided boat tour or a hike, your experienced guide will be able to point out interesting things along the way. You could also try your hand at kayaking or sports fishing. Take the opportunity to go on a tour to a local village and see what Costa Rican life is all about in this beautiful area called Tortuguero.

Client Rating for Costa Rica 5/5 from 216 reviews

Truly amazing. AC was a godsend. Food and guides (Lius and Luis) great. Could have stayed here for weeks. Flight in was part of the experience. Highly recommend the flight. The activities included were wonderful, extra ones we booked (kayaking, turtles etc) were really fun. Fab location for wildlife spotting . As with everywhere, bar shut at 10pm. Not sure if this is seasonal or cultural.
