Lupita Island is a private island retreat on Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania where you can do as much or little as you like, taking each day as it comes and enjoying the relaxed pace of island life. Explore the lake by kayak or go for a cruise in one of the resort's boats, follow walking trails to discover the island, go snorkeling or diving, visit a local village and stroll around the atmospheric ruins of a 19th monastery. All this and more is possible, though there is no pressure to do anything more than relax.
Individual cottages provide homely and spacious accommodation, cooled by lake breezes. You'll have your own living room, bathroom with waterfall shower and outdoor bathtub, plus a terrace with sunbeds and a plunge pool. On top of this, you have the personal service of a butler to tend to your wants and needs. Lupita Island welcomes families and larger cottages make ideal family accommodation.
The outdoor swimming pool is set a little way away from the main lodge, and has a deck and loungers for sun lovers, as well as pool bar. For a special treat, you can enjoy a massage at the spa set a short way up the hillside. Making your way down to the beach you come across the resort's beach shack where you can sit down to a refreshing drink or snack as you gaze out over the lake.
Meals are served in the open-sided restaurant which has great views over the lake, and in a number of outdoor locations including by the pool and on the beach. The main bar, constructed from wood reclaimed from dhows, is a good place to watch sunsets over the water before you walk to the boma for drinks around the fire prior to dinner.
