Le Colonial is an historic gem. The building dates back to 1506, along with the adjacent St Francis Church. It served initially as the Portguese Governor's home and was then used by the Dutch Governor and was later bought by the famous tea trader, J Thomas. This lovely colonial house has now been renovated to incorporate 21st century mod cons such as air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms, which sit alongside antique furniture and artworks.

Entering through a gate in the whitewashed wall, you walk into peaceful gardens, complete with a swimming pool. The house is an elegant 2 storey building with 8 guest rooms, each named after an historical character associated with the house. Rooms are spacious and high ceilinged, have polished wooden floors, storage space, and en-suite marble and mahogany bathrooms. All are light and four rooms on the first floor have balconies.

Guest areas include a lounge and dining room, both furnished in period style. There's a terrace for al fresco dining and relaxation. The hotel serves a complimentary breakfast each morning and rates include either lunch or dinner, with a choice of Keralan, Indian and international dishes. Soft drinks are available.

Massages can be arranged, and there are yoga and ayurveda centres nearby. The hotel is perfectly positioned for visiting attractions within historic Fort Kochi including the Chinese fishing nets, and for sightseeing in the wider city. Staff can arrange excursions including cruises in the Kerala Backwaters.
