Kirindy Forest Lodge is a great base from which to venture into the reserve of the same name, indeed it is the only lodge inside the reserve. The entrance is marked by a large wooden statue of an African lady, offering a warm welcome to the lodge. Accommodation is in rustic wooden chalets of varying sizes, most of which have private bathrooms with running cold water.
Your main reason for staying here is to explore the flora and fauna of Kirindy Forest Reserve. These include impressive baobab trees, the planet's smallest primate: the giant junping rat, and Madagascar's largest carnivore: the fossa, as well as several species of lemur. You can go on guided walks in the reserve by day and night, with the latter providing chances of seeing and hearing nocturnal creatures.
When not out exploring you can take time out at the lodge sampling some tasty home-cooked food in the open air dining area, as you enjoy the company of other guests. Animal encounters are common and you may find yourself face-to-face with a gecko or a fossa without even leaving the lodge.

Client Rating for Madagascar 5/5 from 9 reviews
More reviewsWe loved Kirindy Lodge. It was exactly what it said on the can. The bathrooms were poor and without running hot water but there was a bottomless supply of hot water on request and a huge bucket of almost boiling hot water was brought to your bathroom. The room was clean and comfortable. You were in the middle of nature and could walk into the forest following fosa (at a respectable distance), looking for birds, finding lemurs, etc. The food was good home cooking in large quantities and considering it was all cooked on fires outside was amazing. There was a large choice of dishes. The staff were lovely, friendly and spoke some English
