Kapani Lodge is an exclusive lodge on a lagoon just on the outskirts of South Luangwa National Park. It is set on an oxbow lagoon. The word Kapani means 'place of mopane trees'.
The lodge accommodates up to 18 guests. There are 8 standard suites, which feature a lounge with bar 'fridge as well as ensuite bathroom. Walk-in mosquito nets arround the beds and there are overhead fans in the bedrooms. Lagoon House is even more spacious. It overlooks the Kapani Lagoon and is perfect for honeymooners, guests requiring extra privacy or family groups.
The lodge has a central thatched building housing the lounge and library with a bar and dining area on a raised deck overlooking the lagoon. The viewing deck has a telescope to help with birding and game viewing from the lodge. There is a swimming pool at the other end of the lodge gardens to the dining area in a secluded position. Meals are usually served in the open under the shade of trees, on the terrace, the deck or by the pool. Private dinners can be arranged. There is a small gift shop selling books, clothes and local crafts. Kapani Lodge is the home camp of Norman Carr Safaris, one of the pioneer safari companies of Luangwa Valley. Still run by Norman's family, Kapani has excellent guides and vehicles and several seasonal bushcamps deep inside the South Luangwa National Park.
We suggest a tailor made holiday to include some time at both Kapani and the bush camps. Norman Carr was instrumental in setting up walking safaris in Zambia and guided bush walks are offered from Kapani and all of the bush camps, it is possible to actually link up walks between several of the bush camps.
