Kafunta River Lodge is set in riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa River, overlooking the South Luangwa National Park. This safari lodge offers all the creature comforts in a pristine wildlife environment, along with a high standard of personal service and great attention to detail.

Great game viewing and bird watching from the lodge is pretty well guaranteed. The park is home to over 420 species of birds and over 60 species of mammals. It is renowned for its high population of leopards, elephants, hippos and crocodiles.

The eight guest chalets are built on raised wooden decks beneath a high thatched roof. Each has a private verandah with stunning views. There are also two larger luxury  suites which can be converted into triples or quadruples for families. They have steps leading up to a high level viewing deck where you can sleep under the stars. The larger bathroom has a stand alone bathtub. All rooms have a mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, electric fans and en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water.

The spacious lounge-bar and dining area forms the heart of the lodge. It leads out to a large deck shaded by a mango tree, and a sunken firepit surrounded by cushioned seating. From here you'll get panoramic views over the Luangwa River. Out here you'll also find the inviting infinity pool and the special hot tub, the only natural hot spring tub in the Luangwa Valley! A little further away is the secluded wellness hideout where you can relax with massages and other therapeutic treatments.

Kafunta is one of the few owner-run lodges in South Luangwa. Ron and Anke Cowan and their son Luke live here most of the year. They also have a great team working with them, many of them drawn from local communities near the lodge.
