Johns Camp

An authentic tented safari camp on the banks of the Zambezi River in Mana Pools

Zimbabwe

  • An authentic safari experience
  • Dine under the stars
  • Exhilarating walking safaris
  • Spend a night fly-camping
  • Small, intimate camp of 5 tents

John's Camp nestles under the shade of mahogany trees on the banks of the Zambezi River.  It's the perfect location from which to explore the beauty of Mana Pools, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Views from camp stretch up stream, downstream and across to the Zambezi escarpment over in Zambia. You're a million miles removed from everyday life, enveloped by stunning wilderness, it evokes a distinct feeling of a safari of times gone by.

There are just 5 well-spaced tents at the camp, ensuring privacy and personal service during your stay. The tents are traditional meru tents, in keeping with an authentic safari, but creature comforts such as an en-suite bathroom complete with flush toilet have been added.  Keeping things authentic is a private outdoor bucket shower, hot water is available when you require it. Comfy beds ensure a good night's sleep and to the front of each tent is a private veranda, a shady spot to spend some time soaking up the views or reading a book.  The main tent provides a shady spot for relaxing too, meals are served outside whenever possible, it's particularly lovely to dine under the stars at night, with a roaring fire providing warmth, and a great place to swap stories after dinner with a night-cap.

Mana Pools is renowned for walking safaris, and you can do just that at John's Camp together with your experienced armed guide. It's a very different experience to a game drive, getting up-close and personal with nature and wildlife, it awakens all your senses. Game drives are also offered so you can explore different areas of this wonderful reserve. To top things off, for the more adventurous, it is possible to organise a night under the stars (and a mozzie net) on a sleep out - there's nothing else quite like it. Keen fishermen can try their hand at fishing in the Zambezi, it's an addictive past time, particularly if the Tiger fish are biting.
