Location: Jehan Numa Retreat is on a private 12-acre estate on the outskirts of Bhopal, the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, and adjacent to Van Vihar National Park. It';s 18 kms from the airport and 10 kms from the train station.
Rooms: There are 28 guest cottages arranged in 6 groups, each group with its own courtyard and sit out decks. They are rustic in appearance, resembling local village dwellings. Inside however, they are spacious well equipped, with air conditioning, minibars, tea and coffee making facilities, safe, LCD TV and WiFi. Each has a modern bathroom and a supply of toiletries, and a sit out deck.
Activities: You can go for walks and bike rides in the forest around the lodge, as well as taking wildlife drives in the national park and by the lake. Van Vihar has been set up as a zoological park where rescued animals can live in their natural environment in safety. Tigers, bears, Asiatic lions and crocodiles are kept in large enclosures while deer are permitted to roam freely. Hotel staff can arrange a tour of the old city of Bhopal with a local guide taking in all the main sites. Further afield you can visit Sanchi Stupas, a Buddhist monastery dating back to the 3rd century BC, and Bhimbetka Caves with their ancient cave paintings and stunning rock formations.
Facilities: The retreat has a large outdoor pool and deck with loungers and parasols. There's a golf green where you can practise your golfing skills and a gym for working out. There's a spacious lounge and a cosy bar. The restaurant, Under the Jamun Tree, provides classic and creative Indian dishes using ingredients grown on site, served on the terrace. The Coriander Leaf is the indoor restaurant, serving international fare, and has a cosy bar area. Spa treatments include health-enhancing massages and therapeutic treatments.
Dining: Meals are eaten at separate tables.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome.
Health: We recommend malaria prophylactics for travel to India.
