Hotel Thermal was originally built as a health spa and operated successfully for many years. In the early 21st century the buildings were remodelled and it re-opened as a hotel. There are 21 rooms, a mixture of twins, doubles and singles, simply styled with bright fabrics adding colour. All rooms have TV, minibar, safe, air conditioning, heating and en-suite bathroom. The restaurant can seat up to 60 diners and has a terrace for al fresco meals. The upper floor bar is a good place to unwind and enjoy conversations with other guests.
The hotel is in Ranomafana village near the public thermal swimming pool, a popular recreation and picnic venue for locals and visitors. It is also near Ranomafana National Park, known for its population of golden bamboo lemurs, a critically endangered species, and is also home to 11 other lemur species including Milne-Edwards sifaka and the rare and rarely seen aye aye. There are a great many reptiles and birds, too. You can go on guided walks through the forest, and also visit after dark to search for nocturnal creatures.
