Nice place and helpful, pleasant staff, but the rooms are a bit basic. Nonetheless clean and tidy and fine for an overnighter.

We felt this hotel offered average city centre accommodation and wondered if other, more attractive lodgings could have been found a little further out out of the city en route to Tortegua, just a thought? It was fine for one night.

We had a very brief stay at the Hotel Presidente. It appeared to be in a good location. We were very keen to have a drink in the rooftop bar when we arrived late but were told we had to have a booking - we did eventually manage to squeeze in but if this was something you were keen to visit and were short on time I would recommend booking before arrival. Otherwise, the room was comfortable and clean.

This seemed a good hotel, although we were only there for a few hours sleep before an early start. The drive from the airport was tedious, and what we saw on the drive out of San Jose confirmed what we had been told by friends, I.e. it is a bit of a dump. I don’t know if it feasible to find an hotel nearer the airport which fits in with tour itineraries without making long journeys even longer. If so, it would be preferable - the only benefit of going into San Jose is to make the rest of the country seem even more attractive.

It was good and the staff very helpful. We were though a bit miffed when on our second night there we were told the dining area was full and we had to go out into San Jose at 8pm in the dark and find somewhere to eat. We had not done any prior research as we had no idea that the restaurant would require pre-booking.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel. I stayed there the first night having just arrived from the UK and was put in a horrible room (515). There were open sockets with wires exposed, curtain falling down, and a window that didn't open and looked out onto a well which was full of scaffolding/building work up against the glass. Luckily I went straight to sleep and then left early the next morning. I felt it was because I was a single traveller that I was shoved somewhere so unpleasant. I had my final night booked in there on the way back so as soon as I turned up I told the receptionist that I wouldn't accept such a horrid room again and that they should give me something suitable. To be fair, the guy was friendly and immediately said 'let me see what I can do' which implied they had planned on doing it again. They did give me a much nicer room (719) up on the top floor overlooking the main pedestrian street so it was bright and sunny. But to be honest, it's just not a very together hotel. The location is fine if you want to spend time in San Jose. It felt safe and the staff are friendly. Unless you have a burning desire to see San Jose, I'd give it a miss. It takes ages to get in and out of the city from the airport (two hours) and although this hotel is in the centre, there is very little to see. I'm a great walker of city pavements but try as I might, I could find little to see. There are a few lovely old buildings and the central market is worth a quick look, but otherwise it's endless sports shops and no parks.

We only stayed here one night - we had an early flight to catch the next morning. The room was good and beds comfortable. However breakfast was poor. If possible to avoid, I would. Better to spend time at a more interesting and better place if possible. Alternatively an airport hotel should be considered as the traffic in to San Jose was horrific and wasted time.

The personnel were polite and the room was clean and functional. Only water was provided in our room. The rooftop bar was friendly and the food nice. Breakfast was brilliant. Although the hotel itself was good, the location was awful. We felt uncomfortable walking around the streets and there was nowhere to eat (that we could find) which meant to had to eat at the hotel. The initial transfer to the hotel from the airport took over 2 hours in awful traffic because we were dropping off at different hotels and seemed to spend an interminable time at the same roundabout. The same journey took only half an hour in reverse. As there was nothing in central San Jose for us, we would have been happy staying in a hotel closer to the airport.

Large, comfortable and clean rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast but evening menu basic and limited; however plenty of local restaurants in the immediate area. Good hotel for its purpose, i.e. transfer hotel. Centre of San Jose which, for us was preferable to some of the plusher ones on the outskirts. Meant we could spend a few hour exploring the commercial centre of San Jose.
