The Hotel Monasterio is Cusco's finest 5-star hotel. It was originally built as a monastery in 1592 on the site of the palace of Inca Amaru Qhala and is now part of the Belmond (Orient Express) group.

This 122 room hotel is a national historical landmark, preserving its colonial renaissance style whilst providing the luxury, elegance and comfort of a modern 5-star hotel. The heart of the hotel is a central courtyard with a fountain and 300-year old Cedar tree surrounded by gardens and stone cloisters.

The rooms are decorated in a combination of Spanish colonial and modern styles and equipped with telephones, central heating, cable TV, minibar, internet access and safety deposit box. The majority of the rooms are deluxe rooms, and there are also one-bedroom and junior suites. Most of the rooms are oxygen enriched to help combat any problems caused by the high altitude.

The Hotel Monasterio has two restaurants offering a mixture of international and local dishes. Illariy Restaurant overlooks the main courtyard and specialises in international cuisine with Mediterranean flair. It is open for breakfast, which is a generous buffet including fresh fruit juice, hot drinks, homemade bread and pastries, freshly cooked pancakes and eggs cooked to order, and lunch, which can include organic salads with edible flowers, and Peruvian sauteed beef tenderloin. Weather permitting, breakfast and lunch can be take open-air in the courtyard. The sophisticated El Tupay restaurant is open for dinner, and features live operatic performances three times a week. Dishes can include warm crayfish ceviche, Pumahuanca trout, suckling pig or T-bone steak. Drinks are served from the lobby bar, which also offers canapes in the evening. Room service is also available 24-hours. The hotel also owns the adjacent Deli Monasterio - a mixture of bakery and bar, with freshly-baked goods and savouries and 25 Peruvian and international craft beers.

Additional services include spa treatments ranging from Thai massages to aromatherapy. For an added indulgence the hotel offers a bath butler service with candles and aromatic salts, or rose petals, candles and champagne for a touch of romance!
