A beautiful, traditional Spanish colonial style hotel close to the centre of town - a very special place to stay for our first two nights. The restaurant is excellent too, so much so that we ate their both nights. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the housekeeping was of a very high standard.

Excellent accommodation and service (great food), despite the above-mentioned problems with the city centre location.

Loved this hotel and we were given an upgrade on our room which was lovely after a long - very long - plane journey. The whole place is Victorian, colonial style and full of interesting features. We ate at the bar in the evening and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful, would have been happy to stay longer to explore San Jose.

I can’t imagine a better introduction to Costa Rica. Coming from the airport after a long flight, it didn’t take long to reach this wonderful old colonial building and the welcome was very friendly. What immediately stood out was just how incredibly green this place is, in both senses of the word. There are tropical plants everywhere in great profusion – the courtyard feels like a little slice of rainforest – and as I checked in the receptionist gave me information about the local charities they support. Of course, being Costa Rica there was great coffee in the room - no sachets of instant coffee here – with more excellent coffee to wake me up the following morning over a lovely breakfast, setting me up to begin my exploration of Costa Rica.
