Open: Hotel Carlota is open all year. It first opened as a hotel in 2011, and was previously a family home.

Location: The hotel is in the historic district of Quito. It is about a 40 minute drive from the airport.

Rooms: There are 12 guest rooms in total, all named after birds found in Quito and the surrounding area. These comprise 2 singles (Golondrina and Carpintero), 1 double (Torito), 1 triple (Mirlo), 4 standard queen rooms (Estrella, Jilguero, Quinde and Canela), 2 suites (Campanaria and Azafran) and 2 loft rooms (Brujo and Esmeralda). All rooms have flatscreen TV, free Wi-Fi, a desk, heater, safe, snack selection and en-suite bathroom with toiletries. Every rooms has its own colour scheme and decor, inspired by the bird after which it is named. They are arranged over the ground, first and second floors and vary in size from 15sqm to over 30sqm. The singles are the most compact rooms and each can accommodate 2 people. The double room has 2 double beds and sleeps up to 4 people, and the triple has a double bed and a twin bunk bed. Queen rooms sleep up to 2 people each. The suite, Azafran, has a small living area with a sofa bed and sleeps up to 4 people. It has windows overlooking the courtyard. Campanaria, the deluxe suite, has a sitting area with a sofa bed and sleeps up to 4. It has a balcony with a street view. The 2 loft rooms have a similar layout with accommodation arranged over 2 storeys, with an en-suite bedroom upstairs and a living room with a sofa bed, a dining area and kitchenette on the floor below. Each accommodates up to 4 people.

Activities: The main city sights are in easy reach with those in the historic district within walking distance and others reachable by public transport. There are shops and restaurants nearby.

Facilities: Reception is staffed 24 hour a day and there is a concierge service. The lobby area includes a covered courtyard, and there’s a second internal courtyard and a reading room. The hotel has a small vegetable garden. The rooftop lounge-cum-bar has panoramic city views. There is a restaurant, wine cellar for private dining and a take-away coffee shop. The hotel offers a laundry service (pay locally).

Dining: The Bistro serves a wide range of dishes. It is open daily for a free buffet breakfast, exclusive to hotel guests, and between 11am and 7pm it is also open to the public, again open for hotel guests only after 7pm. A complimentary afternoon tea consisting of tea, coffee and cakes, is served in the reading room. Take away snacks and drinks are available from the shop, which is also open to the public.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome.

Health: This is not a malarial area.

Communication: There is Wi-Fi internet access in communal areas and guest rooms.
