Hotel Capitan Suizo

Capitan Suizo is a Swiss-owned hotel on Playa Tamarindo on Costa Rica's north Pacific coast. The many trees provide shade from the sun's heat and shelter birds, monkeys and squirrels. You might even see geckos, anteaters, porcupines and armadillos as you stroll through the gardens, which back on to forest.

Guest rooms and bungalows have views of the gardens (and from some you see the ocean), and each has a balcony or deck where you can relax in private. Inside there's a sitting area and modern bathroom, tea and coffee maker, fridge, safe, phone, radio and wifi internet access. High ceilings add to the sense of space and sliding glass doors admit lots of daylight. There is one 4-bedroom suite accommodating up to 8, so ideal for a large family or group of friends.

There is a large outdoor pool, as well as the sea, for swimming, and water-sports are available nearby including surfing and kayaking. The long beach is perfect for barefoot walks, and there are plenty of chairs, loungers and hammocks for relaxation. The Aromas del Mar Spa offers soothing and pampering massages within sight of the ocean.

The open-air restaurant is right by the beach, and serves Costa Rican and international dishes, and dinners are eaten by romantic candlelight. If you're here on a Friday you'll be able to enjoy the weekly barbecue, a popular tradition featuring local music and dance.
