Fabulous location, welcoming staff, comfortable accommodation, exceptional shared areas and delicious food. NB we think we had a deluxe room but chatting with other guests it sounds as though some of the 'standard' rooms may be a bit small. A good variety of activities, even for those not riding. Maria went the extra mile when I had a dental emergency & couldn't have been more helpful.

This is a 'must visit' hacienda, it is truly special. The accommodation is really comfortable and log fires and hot water bottles in each bedroom make it really cosy after a day trekking in the mountains. The owners are related to previous presidents of Ecuador and want guests to treat it like their own home which is easy to do. Huge fireplaces in the lounges and fantastic home cooking make it a truly exceptional accommodation. The surroundings are so beautiful and the condor project inspirational. The resident biologist is so knowledgeable and passionate about the condors and spectacled bears, you cannot help but admire all the work that is going on there. The horses are all beautiful and so well cared for, and know their way around the mountains you feel very safe with them. All in all, a fantastic place.

Set in the Andes and run by the family of a previous president, this is one of the loveliest hotels I have ever had the pleasure to stay at. The buildings are superb. One feels a part of the family who run this working farm with a cheese factory and a condor rescue centre. We milked a cow with one of the villagers! The four children of the previous owner each run a different part of the complex. We met and dined with 3 of them. So interesting to hear about history of the family. The main house is like a very comfortable museum with some superb pieces of furniture. There are roaring log fires to gather round with a drink and the most convivial company. Our room had a log burner and a huge patio. Lots of walking trails, a beautiful vegetable garden, cheese factory tour, condor visit, horse riding and marvellous views. My daughter and I felt so much more than guests, more like treasured visiting cousins. Go here if you possibly can and stay a minimum of 2 nights - I wish we had stayed for longer

Wow, wow, wow! It's an amazing place, we were treated like royalty. The accommodation is luxurious, the rooms are lovely, with log burners. The public rooms are extremely comfortable and the staff are great. The food was excellent, and we got the chance to try some new foods, such as guinea pig as well as the lovely produce from the organic garden and the trout farm. The tour of the garden was very interesting, seeing so many exotic and familiar plants growing at altitude on the equator was great. We don't ride, but took a walk to the Condor rehabilitation project and it was lovely. The researcher at the project was very interesting, his work with condors, spectacled bears and other local species was inspiring and we were glad to be able to donate to the project. We wandered off to the local community centre, with one of the hacienda dogs to buy some crafts, which was entertaining.
