Hacienda La Cienega is a stately 400 year old mansion near the slopes of Cotopaxi volcano in the Andes Mountains, and has been a hotel since 1982. It stands at the end of a long drive, which enhances the hacienda's impressive appearance.

Rooms are decorated in a traditional style and have thick walls, period furniture and windows with views of the gardens. All are en-suite and have heating and some have open fires. They vary in size from single to triple, and there are suites for those desiring extra space and refinement.

The hacienda has plenty of social areas including a living room, library and bar. The restaurant serves Ecuadorian and continental cuisines. Interiors feature paintings, objets d'art, chandeliers, large fireplaces, polished wooden floors and large windows, giving it the feel of an historic country house, which indeed it is.  The gardens contain a variety of plants and trees, as well as fountains, outbuildings and a chapel.

From Hacienda La Cienega you can go hiking in Cotopaxi National Park, to Laguna del Quilotoa and other local places of interest, explore by mountain bike and on horseback, and visit Andean market towns and villages. The shop is a good place to pick up locally made gifts and souvenirs.
