The setting of Fish River Lodge is simply stunning. Perched at the edge of the Fish River Canyon, the largest canyon in the southern hemisphere, the main building and chalets are all built along the rim, making the very best of these spectacular views. The lodge offers year-round day drives by 4x4 vehicle taking you down into the canyon, where you can see ancient geological features, bathe in a rock pool and enjoy a picnic lunch. On the way back you may see oryx, kudu and, if lucky, mountain zebras. You can also take a sundowner drive to a scenic spot. Between April and September guided canyon hikes between half a day and up to 5 days are offered.

The lodge has a contemporary design incorporating huge plate glass windows and flat roofs, inspired by the dramatic scenery, and whenever indoors your eyes are drawn to the breath-taking views outside. The main building has a bar and sitting area and bar which flow through to the dining room. There's a large fireplace for chilly days. Doors open onto the wide terrace where lunch is often served, and there's an infinity pool and deck a short distance away.

Chalets are grouped to either side of the main building, set well apart from each other and at distance of between five and eight metres from the canyon edge. Beds face the picture windows, and terrace, and can even be moved out here for a sleep-out. Each chalet has its own bathroom with a shower, his and hers basins and toilet, and there's a separate outdoor shower.
